Client News: Children of East Passyunk Learn to Give Back During Bunny Hop for Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Easter Bunny makes an early appearance to help grant a special child’s wish. On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 11:00 AM, Alphabet Academy presents their annual Bunny Hop at the East Passyunk Singing Fountain (Tasker Street and East Passyunk Avenue) to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Parents and children from Alphabet Academy will join with Passyunk business owners, neighbors and civic groups to raise $8,000 to help grant Gabe’s wish to go to Disneyland.  The event is open to the public. Donations can be made at any Alphabet Academy location (1506, 1510, 1631 and 1720  East Passyunk Avenue), or at http://friends.wish.org/051-000/page/Alphabet-Academy/Bunny-Hop.htm. Alphabet Academy will again partner with Make-a-Wish Foundation to fund a wish for a child with a life-threatening illness. While a wish will not a cure, it can give them a chance to forget, just for a little while, the sadness of being sick. Make-a-Wish Foundation reports that a wish come true almost always has a positive effect on a child by bringing hope back into his or her life and a reason to continue a grown-up battle.

Proceeds raised this year will help Gabe, a five year old boy battling cerebral palsy. His wish is to visit Disneyland with his family.  In 2012, Alphabet Academy helped a child like Gabe by raising $7,822.75. With help from the public, Alphabet Academy hopes to beat last year’s total.

The general public is invited to donate towards the campaign, as well as stop by the Bunny Hop itself. Donations can be dropped at any Alphabet Academy Child Care location (1506, 1510, 1631 and 1720  East Passyunk Avenue),  on Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 20, 2013.  Donations can be made at http://friends.wish.org/051-000/page/Alphabet-Academy/Bunny-Hop.htm

East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID) presents the most festive Second Saturday of them all on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Deck the Ave with a new Shopping Spree Contest, strolling musicians, visits from Santa Claus, photos with Santa, pet photos, Holiday Crafty Balboa craft show, Nice Things...Handmade ornament show, sales and specials, art openings and more.  All activities are free (unless noted) and will run from 9:00am to 10:00pm at various locations along and around the commercial corridor.  Parking at meter spots will be free after 11:00am courtesy of Philadelphia Parking Authority. East Passyunk Avenue hosted the first ever Blogger Day on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Philadelphia's top bloggers brought their families out for a day of private tours, cupcake decorating, shopping, sales, giveaways, prizes, live music, craft activities and more.  

Thanks to participating businesses, bloggers and their families for making the day a big success!

• A Star is Born let budding fashionistas walk the runway. 
• Alphabet Academy - The Treehouse hosted mum planting, kids' yoga and breakfast snacks (by Belle Cakery).  Bloggers also toured the new eco-friendly Treehouse.
• Alphabet Aquarium was the scene for more private tours, apple painting and snacks. Kids met the Avenue's resident fish in the giant aquarium. 
• FUEL, Noir Philadelphia and Mamma Maria's Ristorante provided lunch for all participants.  South Philly's famous Mamma even came out to serve the mom bloggers. 
• Headhunters Hair Design and Novo Salon provided discounted services for moms and dads.
• Kings Music provided piano and guitar lessons for budding musicians.

• Craft pit stop! Children made one-of-a-kind creations while parents shopped at Nice Things... Handmade.
• Halloween came early this year at Pixie Toes where bloggers previewed Halloween decor. They also enjoyed a nice trick or treat with free kids' gifts, popcorn and snacks. 
• Sermania Jewelry designed an original "Mom and Me" bracelet that was given away to one lucky family! 
• South Philly Comics were the heroes of the day with free comic books.  
• Urban Jungle presented a seed planting presentation and free plants for all the kids.
