Charm City Movement Arts (CCMA) brings the big top fun to Baltimore this summer with adult circus and dance classes at their Highlandtown studio. Registration is now open for regular adult session that includes Tightwire, Juggling, Chinese Acrobatics, Tumbling and more. Step out of the sun and into the spotlight with new Burlesque to the Core taught by instructor Paco Fish. Beginners can work up a sweat in a one-time intro workshop in Ballet, Tap, Juggling and Tightwire. Summer classes start the week of July 22nd.

CHINESE ACROBATICS

Chinese Acrobatics improves flexibility, alignment, strength and control with intensive work on handstands, tumbling, and partner balancing. Students should come to class prepared to experience a unique and challenging workout. Students will gain strength, endurance and skill.
Instructor Lin Junming brings extensive experience from years with the Fujian Acrobatics Group of China. He has performed in circuses all over the world and specializes in handstands, tumbling, ring juggling, straw-hat juggling, ultimate wheel, rope-twirling and Chinese pole.
BURLESQUE TO THE CORE

Burlesque is an art form that combines dance, props, performance, character work, mime, storytelling, comedy and, yes, stripping. Students will learn burlesque skills and choreography, while also developing strength, improving flexibility and gaining endurance. Students will learn to take it off and show it off. CCMA’s studio is a safe space for all genders, ages 18+. Burlesque to the Core is appropriate for both first-timers and experienced performers.
Instructor Paco Fish holds the titles "King of Southern Exposure 2011," "King of Carolina Sweet Tease 2012" and "Most Humorous" from both 2012 Great Burlesque Expo and 2012 Carolina Burlesque Festival. Students new to circus arts will learn the basics of three ball juggling and walking across the practice wire (two feet off the ground). Intro workshops are a unique experience that can be shared with friends, family and groups. Open to anyone ages 16 and up.
INTRO TO BALLET FOR ADULTS

Intro to Ballet helps students use the art form of ballet to build strength and flexibility, while improving their posture and sense of well-being. This class is perfect for new students who seek an alternative workout or for experienced dancers who wanted to reintroduce themselves. Ballet slippers are encouraged but not required.

Charm City Movement Arts is an independent circus school that provides professional instruction for students of all ages from Baltimore and beyond. Classes and performances work to strengthen and increase interest in the circus as an art form. Seasoned faculty lead a curriculum that includes ballet, burlesque, creative movement, Chinese acrobatics, juggling, physical conditioning, tap, tightwire, tumbling, yoga and youth circus. CCMA is one of the few schools in the United States, and the only facility in Maryland, that offers year-round ongoing instruction in tightwire. CCMA was founded by circus instructor and performer Erica Saben in October 2011.
